The Focusing Effect is a faux-documentary/horror film about three film students who make a doc about breakups, only to push one of their subjects too far.

Stefan Gabriel (Martin Wuttke) ist Bademeister und engagierter Vater zweier sehr unterschiedlicher Töchter. Die 12-jä(✅)hrige Jessica (Ella Frey) wird wegen ihres wenig mädchenhaften Aussehens oft für einen Jungen gehalten und hat mit einer ganzen Reihe Ticks zu kämpfen. Ihre drei Jahre ältere Schwester Sabrina (Emilia Bernsdorf) ist hingegen zwar hübsch, leidet aber unter einer schweren Krankheit. Im gleichen Maße, wie Sabrinas Zustand schlechter wird, werden Jessicas Ticks immer schlimmer, weswegen die jüngere Schwester einen Plan ersinnt: Ein spezielles Ritual, auf das die Geschwister in einem Buch gestoßen sind, soll für Sabrinas Heilung sorgen, allerdings muss sie dafür Sex mit einem Jungen haben. Da ihrer älteren Schwester nur noch wenig Zeit bleibt, setzt Jessica nun alles daran einen Partner für Sabrina aufzutreiben.

Dave Stimple, an unfocused mattress store owner, is having issues connecting with everyone around him. He arrives at the shop one morning to find the local health and safety people have shut him down. Bugs, huge bed bugs and lots of complaints are cited as the reason. Dave is really confused and his relationships with his wife, friends, and his own humanity seem to be devolving and increasingly distracting anomalies begin to take over his reality. But his issues may not be as internal as they seem.

Siblings torn apart by the hazards of life meet in Spain to settle the family's modest inheritance. Gustave, the mover, on the brink of bankruptcy, Jules the anarchistic activist, and Lou, the youngest, lost between her brothers, yearning for the unknown. Each one has a different outlook on life and their personal projects for this inheritance will reawaken family disagreements and phantoms of the past.
